Freida McFadden

Biography

A practising physician specialising in brain injuries, Freida McFadden is also an international bestseller of heart-stopping, psychological thrillers. A graduate of Harvard University, McFadden enjoyed a successful career as a physician before penning her first novel. Self-published in 2013, The Devil Wears Scrubs is the first in the Dr Jane McGill comedic, medical romance series. More novels followed, including the Prescription: Murder series, but it was the psychological thriller, standalone novel The Ex, published in 2019, that propelled her into the mainstream and dramatically widened her audience. In 2022, McFadden published The Housemaid, the first in an eponymous series. Featuring desperate housemaid Millie, she accepts a job with a seemingly normal family only to realise they’re not as perfect as they seem. Fortunately, neither is Millie… A psychological thriller full of suspense, drama, plot twists and intrigue, it won the International Thriller Writers Award for Best Paperback Original Novel, the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Mystery & Thriller, and is being adapted into a film starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Three more in the series were published, the last, The Housemaid Is Watching, in 2024. Topping the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Sunday Times and Publisher’s Weekly bestsellers charts and translated into 40 languages, Freida McFadden writes twisting thrillers that will keep you guessing until the shocking, final reveal. Engaging and unsettling, with unreliable yet darkly relatable characters, these novels are perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and A.J. Finn.
