Awesome Books was born from a love for books: to not see books thrown away when they can still be read and their stories shared.
Awesome Books was founded by Mubin and Taskeen in 2003, with a mission to prevent books from being thrown away and to share their stories with others. The co-founders were dismayed to see charity shops discarding perfectly good books that they couldn't sell. As book lovers themselves, they set out to find a solution.
After trying various ideas, Awesome Books began selling books online. This proved to be a successful model, allowing more and more books to be saved from landfills. Today, Awesome Books is a global retailer, processing over 250,000 books every day. None of these books go to waste - they are either resold, donated through literacy programs, or recycled into new products.
Awesome Books is committed to finding new ways to collect books and prevent them from being discarded. The company has set up collection banks with many councils around the country, and has also launched Sellitback.com - a website and app that allows members of the public to send in their unwanted books and get paid for them.
While Awesome Books specialises in used books, we have also offered new books since 2011. Customers can choose from a range of over 20 million new titles in addition to the 5 million second-hand books in stock.
At Awesome Books we believe that books are a powerful tool for education and self-improvement. Since its inception, we have supported literacy and education projects, including funding reading programs in schools since 2005 and in 2011 started working with a foundation in Ghana that donates books to schools in the Ashante region. In 2019, we launched our Buy One Give One scheme, donating a book for every one purchased on awesomebooks.com. In 2025, this grew into You Buy, We Give, a bigger, bolder commitment to donate 500,000 books each year to communities that need them most.
