Biography
An American author best known for her romance, thrillers and young adult fiction, Colleen Hoover has exploded into mainstream publishing largely thanks to a dedicated following on BookTok, the book-loving community on TikTok.
Born in Texas in 1979, she has a degree in social work and worked in many jobs before she started writing in her free time. She self-published her first novel Slammed in 2012, mainly so her mother, who had just bought a Kindle, could read it. A few months later, Slammed was reviewed by a popular book blogger and sales took off. Colleen quit her job to become a full-time author, and her third book, Hopeless, reached the top spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list, the first self-published book ever to do so.
Several successful books followed, but it was It Ends With Us, published in 2016, that brought her fully to the public’s attention. By 2019 the novel had sold over 1 million copies; in 2021, it enjoyed a surge in popularity thanks to a loyal fanbase on BookTok; and in 2023, filming for a movie adaptation started.
Winning numerous awards and topping bestseller charts around the world, Colleen Hoover is known for tackling difficult themes such as domestic abuse, grief and mental illness with a gentle touch that renders them both realistic yet uplifting. Character-driven and engaging, her novels offer a fresh look on modern relationships that don’t shy away from the darker elements of life.
